Art
At Great Bentley Primary School, education in Art and Design will engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of Art and Design. They should also know how Art and Design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Within Key Stage 1, children are taught to be able to use a range of materials creatively, be able to draw, paint and sculpt and develop techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.
Within Key Stage 2, children are taught to develop their techniques through their control and use of materials, to review and revisit their ideas and to improve their mastery of drawing, painting and sculpting.
Throughout the school, children are exposed to a variety of artists to inspire their creativity and imagination. The artists are carefully chosen to showcase certain skills based on what the children are going to be exploring.
Below you will see the Art and Design process that all year groups will follow. This process ensures that all children get the opportunity to explore and identify what they like about their artist, practice and improve the skills needed to produce their own artwork before then apply the skills to a final piece and be able to evaluate what they have been able to achieve.
