Computing

At Great Bentley Primary School, following the national curriculum, our aim is to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive in the digital world of today and the future. Within the computing curriculum, every year group learns through units within the same four themes - computing systems and networks, programming, data and information and creating media.  This will ensure that each child is ready to transition to secondary school confidently in all areas of computing. Moreover, they will be provided with the vocabulary, independence and resilience skills to explain their learning and understanding and by the end of Year 6, all pupils will know that Computer Science is an exciting, stimulating and challenging subject. They will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and understanding to navigate safely, responsibly, and creatively, with confidence in the ever-changing digital world.

Being online is an integral part of children and young people’s lives. Social media, online games, websites and apps can be accessed through mobile phones, computers, laptops and tablets – all of which form a part of children and young people’s online world. The internet and online technology provides new opportunities for young people’s learning and growth, but it can also expose them to new types of risks.

E-safety is a fundamental part of our schools’ safeguarding and child protection measures and is taught throughout the year as part of our units of work in Computing.
